A Right Royal Knees-Up!

On the 19th May 2018 The East Malling Centre celebrated the Royal Wedding with a Community event held in the Main Hall. The hall looked fabulous with bunting hanging from the roof and the walls, making it look like a proper street party! The bunting was lovingly made by our Craft and Chat group, who did a fantastic job. All the tables were decorated with flowers, made by local children at our 'Royal Craft' events in the weeks running up to the wedding.

Local families came to watch the wedding on the big screen, while eating a delicious afternoon tea, prepared by our volunteers. Everyone enjoyed sandwiches, quiche, scones, cakes and of course a cup of tea!

The children enjoyed wedding themed colouring as well as making hats to parade at the end of the afternoon. They also had fun posing in our 'Castle', made by our volunteers, with help from the children at our craft events. Some of the adults even joined in on the photo booth fun!

During the event, we were lucky enough to have a photographer attend from the Kent Messenger. He took lots of pictures of people enjoying the event and of the children posing in the castle. We are excited to see if we make it in to the paper! Our Chair of Trustees also spoke live on a local radio station.

After the wedding, we had a fabulous raffle to raise funds for the Centre, with prizes donated to us by local companies and members of the public. Many of the prizes were wrapped up to look like wedding gifts. We even had a Wedding Cake as a prize, made by a very talented local lady called Pam. Then the children paraded around the hall to show off their home made hat creations - they all did a super job!

Finally, Liz Simpson, our Chair of Trustees, was presented with a bunch of flowers at the end of the day for her hard work with the catering. She and her team did an amazing job! We couldn't host these events without the support from the many volunteers who help with the planning, organisation and implementation of them. Thank you to everyone who helped out, however big or small the contribution!
